What is a Water Irrigation Meter?

A water irrigation meter is something that exclusively measures water used for watering and irrigation.  For one thing, it reduces wastewater and sewer bills.  It accurately measures the use of outdoor water.  There is a separate shutoff valve from the irrigation system itself.  There are three really good reasons to have one!

Now, the real question…could a water irrigation meter actually save you a bunch of cash in the long run?  If you use a lot of water to irrigate your lawn or garden, you should definitely consider installing a water irrigation system.  Since the water never enters the sanitary sewer system, you will only be billed for actual water usage.

It’s Gonna Get Wet Around Here.

Those who have lived in Columbus, OH over many seasons know that summertime is the wettest time of the year.  Here is a tip for area homeowners…a battery-powered back-up sump pump is no match to the benefits of using a water-powered back-up sump pump, especially during prolonged periods of rain and flooding.

Your home’s sump pump is your first line of defense against encroaching water.  Because your main sump pump is usually powered by electricity, when the power goes out, the pump stops removing water from your home.  And that is why it’s smart to install a back-up sump pump. Simply put, the better choice for a back-up sump pump is a water-powered sump pump.

Call us and allow us to explain why that is the case.  We are Staats Plumbing.  I’m Brent Staats.  Let me apply my decades of experience to make sure this summer (and many to come) is a dry one in your Columbus area basement.  Why a water-powered sump pump back-up system?  You’ll know why after calling Staats Plumbing at (740) 625-5284.

Amateurs Trying to be Professionals.

Come on, you’re at least a little bit guilty.  Most Americans think that they are mechanics, accountants, plumbers, etc.  Most of the time the best advice is leave it to the pros!  Almost every homeowner or renter has a few essential tools on hand to cope with minor plumbing emergencies such as a clogged toilet or slow drain.

May we suggest a regular plumbing inspection by a pro?  Here are some steps we might perform-

1.  Drain treatment to keep them flowing smoothly.
2.  Cleaning garbage disposals and perhaps water heaters.
3.  Pressure tests to check for hairline leaks.
4.  Water pressure adjustment as needed.

Who is that professional plumber in my home or business?  Why, it’s Brent Staats of Staats Plumbing.  I am the owner and I have worked on Columbus Ohio’s plumbing problems for many, many years.  Before you try to plumb above your pay grade call me…Brent Staats of Staats Plumbing at (740) 625-5284.

So, You Bought a Home. How Old is the Water Heater?

It’s a question that any new homeowner should ask before signing the papers.  The water heater might be one of the first appliances that need to be replaced.  When you were looking at the house, you were cognizant of certain things such as the foundation, the roof, the yard, kitchen appliances, etc., but what about the water heater?

The short answer here is subtract from 10 (maybe 12).  Whatever you discover about the age of the existing water heater, you SHOULD have that many years less than 10 of peak efficiency.  This does not, of course, include extraordinary wear and tear that have caused premature leaks, cracks, and noises from the existing unit.

When the time comes (and it definitely will) that you need your Columbus Ohio area home’s water heater maintained or replace count on the expertise of Staats Plumbing serving Columbus and the surrounding areas.  The correct phone number to call for most any plumbing need you may have in your “new castle” is (740) 625-5284.

Gas…No Laughing Matter.

Does your Columbus Ohio area home have dangerous gases seeping into it or, perhaps your business is putting you and your customers in harm’s way due to a higher risk of a gas explosion   If you don’t take proper safety steps now to protect against gas leaks, they can lead to a very dangerous situation.

Here are a few tips to avoid that –

1.  The gas piping needs to be rigid…loose pipes could easily result in leaks.
2.  The grounding bar/post near the gas panel needs to be properly anchored.
3.  All piping and metal air ducts should be securely bonded.

This is no trivial matter.  It’s not like a leaky toilet…messy, maybe, but not necessarily dangerous.  When you suspect any type of gas leak in your home or business around Columbus, immediately contact gas line repair specialist Brent Staats of Staats Plumbing.  He will make your home or office safe in no time.  Just call (740) 625-5284.
